Introduction: :
Simulation training is an educational technique that replaces or amplifies real experiences with guided experiences that evoke or replicate substantial aspects of the real world in a fully interactive manner. It is an effective method of training nurses and improving patient safety under safe environment and practical conditions. Simulation training also allows learners to develop their critical thinking and decision-making skills, as well as their communication and teamwork abilities. By providing a realistic, and context-rich experiential learning environment, simulation training can help nurses improve their performance and enhance patient safety.
Objectives: :
The objectives of simulation training for nurses are to help them become confident in dealing with high-pressure situations, learn from their mistakes in a safe and supportive environment, and gain experience with conditions they may not encounter at clinical settings.
Methodology: :
Since from 2022, simulation-based training has been adopted a co-delivery model in which trained simulation educators from the Nursing Services Department work with departmental education coordinators from each department to conduct simulation training.
Simulation educators co-worked and facilitated the departments to identifying the objectives of simulation training by departmental basis; The simulation scenario was developed to match with the objectives. The educators assisted in holding the simulation training and arranged the debriefing session.
Result & Outcome: :
From the third quarter to the fourth quarter of 2023, five training sessions involving 4 departments have been conducted. The average satisfaction obtained using six 6-point Likert scales was 5.48. Feedback demonstrated participant appreciation by providing excellent opportunities for learning and sharing experiences and reinforcing appropriate and useful practice. Training will continue across departments.
