Introduction: :
To ensure patient safety, training on tracheostomy care was conducted via Zoom on 5 Dec 2022. After the related guideline update and to refresh the skills and knowledge, a workshop was planned to conduct to enhance skills in tracheostomy care and airway management. Tracheostomy care plays a critical role in the management and well-being of patients with tracheostomies. Although training was provided through virtual platform during COVID, there is an imminent need to further enhance the skills and knowledge on tracheostomy care and airway management with an aim to provide a quality and safe care practice among health care professionals.
Objectives: :
Conduct a multidisciplinary workshop to enhance clinical skills and knowledge on tracheostomy care and airway management.
Methodology: :
This workshop was organized by the ENT Day Centre, Wound Team, Speech Therapy, and Q&S Office. Five theme-based booths were arranged namely: airway management, tracheostomy daily care, troubleshooting, speaking valve management, and wound care related to tracheostomy. All doctors, nurses and allied health professional were invited to join this workshop. All participants were required to complete 5 pre test questions before the workshop. These 5 questions were set by each booth to address the main learning point. After completion of the whole workshop, all participants were invited for a post workshop survey, including that 5 questions as a post test for comparison and program evaluation. Before the finishing the workshop, all participants received an QR code for the bring home message from each booth to sustain knowledge retention and refresh.
Result & Outcome: :
1. Participants learnt clinical skill and knowledge on tracheostomy care and airway management. 2. Participants were satisfied with the workshop. This workshop had a satisfactory response with more than 60 participants, including frontline nurses, nursing supervisors, student nurse, physiotherapists, speech therapists etc. Around 70% of participants return the online post workshop survey. After analysis, the mean knowledge score was improved from 3.48/5 (pre-test) to 4.64/5 (post-test), that was 1.16/5 (33.33%) improved. For the satisfaction, the score was 4.68/5 in general, indicating that the participants were satisfied of this workshop.
