Introduction :
Nurses who works in Neurosurgery unit is always facing complex and urgent clinical work or routine. Patients always have complicated disease severity. Nurses require to respond correctly and immediately when patient is deteriorating. Nurses reflect they are under stress due to clinical work or routine and complicated patient’s condition. There are 18 new recruited nurses in Department of Neurosurgery in 2023. The clinical teaching and training for new recruited nurses is an important for reducing their stress and turnover rate.
Objectives :
Preceptorship program was formulated to assist newcomer in Neurosurgery to adapt ward routine and environment. The objective of preceptorship program is to provide coaching and development for all new recruited nurses to build confidence and increase commitment to our department in order to reduce turnover rate of new recruited nurses in our department.
Methodology :
Preceptorship program included as follows:
1) Arranging 4 days’ class-based activities,
2) Preforming simulation training,
3) holding clinical Training,
3) encourage two-ways feedback between preceptors and preceptees,
4) encourage peer support between new recruited nurses.
Result & Outcome :
The retention rate of new recruited nurses in Neurosurgery was 55% and 89% in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Increased 35% retention rate of new recruited nurses in Neurosurgery compared between 2022 and 2023.
