Introduction :
Pain is a subjective, multidimensional experience unique to the individual. Pain management nursing (PMN) is an ongoing dynamic specialty to promoting pain management. PMN provides direct patient care while facilitating and coordinating an individualize pain management plan. PMN empowers patients by providing them with knowledge and skills to self-manage their pain. Nurse teach patients about pain tracking techniques, stress management, and healthy lifestyle choices to improve overall well-being. With the Kwong Wah Hospital (KWH) Phase 1 Redevelopment Project has been completed and hospital’s facilitate have been further enhanced to improve patient service.
Objectives :
Chronic pain art workshop empowers patient by
(1) To distracted from chronic pain engaging in a hobby and helps shift the attention to something enjoyable and fulfilling.
(2) To Sense of accomplishment by achieving goals or mastering new skills, which can positively impact overall well-being.
(3) To reduce stress by engaging in a hobby/ skill that one enjoys can help reduce stress and promote relaxation.
(4) To increase the social interaction by providing opportunities for knowing others, which is particularly important for individuals with chronic pain who may experience feelings of isolation and help connects with others, share experience, and build a support network.
(5) To promote pain management by improving one’s psychological flexibility, strengthen muscles, and promote overall physical well-being, potentially reducing pain levels.
Methodology :
One Nurse-led chronic pain art workshop held in Oct 2023 after KWH Redevelopment project. Content of the workshop included: a piece of art, goal setting, pacing technique, stretching exercise. Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (PSEQ) for assessing the confidence of people with any type of chronic pain in activity despite pain were adopt. Patient assessed by nurse individually before attending the class. Comparison on PSEQ (SD) form a sample of patient attending a single nurse-led chronic pain class at pre-and-post treatment (N=8) (pre-treatment: post treatment = 19.3: 28)
Result & Outcome :
By unleashing nurse services in chronic pain management, patients can receive personalized care, comprehensive support, and effective pain management strategies. The group class is win-win circumstance for monitors the throughput, and patients are empowered and benefited in group dynamic.
