Introduction :
The implementation of recovery-oriented practice (ROP) in psychiatric day hospital settings has transformed the approach to mental health care since 2010, that aroused our attention on empowering individuals and promoting their autonomy towards recovery. Modular based intervention hence was established since 2016, which advocated the respect of human choices and shared decision making. This study seeks to assess the impact of ROP specifically in the day hospital setting, shedding light on its effectiveness and potential benefits for individuals receiving care in this context.
Objectives :
The objectives of this study were to evaluate the functional outcomes of service users in terms of social and occupational functioning and overall volition during their engagement in recovery-oriented practice.
Methodology :
From 2021 to 2023, a total of 33 service users in Yung Fung Shee Psychiatric Day Hospital (YFSPDH) who received recovery-oriented practice services for at least 6 months were recruited. Data on social and occupational functioning and volition were collected at the time point of 0-month and 6-month. The Social and Occupational Functioning Assessment Scale (SOFAS) plus Volitional Questionnaire (VQ) were used in this study. Pre and post test data was finally analyzed by the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test.
Result & Outcome :
The findings revealed statistically significant improvement in social and occupational functioning (p < 0.001) plus overall volition (p < 0.05) following the engagement under recovery-oriented practice.

This study demonstrated the positive impact of recovery-oriented practice on social and occupational functioning for service users in psychiatric day hospitals. These findings highlight the importance of implementing recovery-oriented approaches in mental health day care to promote functional improvement and overall volition in this population.
