Introduction :
HA GOPC drug list was first released in April 2012. It contained over 170 drugs that are essential for quality patient’s care at GOPC. In 2023, with the aim to increase the collaboration between GOPCs and Specialist Out-patient Clinics (SOPC), 23 types of new drugs were added to the HA GOPC Drug List. The total items of drugs were increased to 216.
Objectives :
To promulgate the 23 new types of drugs added to HA GOPC drug list to colleagues and to ensure quality use of drugs
Methodology :
We prepared a set of slides in PowerPoint format for promulgation in our department. The format of the slides was standardized, which included class of the drug, drug cost, initiation, indications in HA Drug Formulary, regime, contra-indications, common and serious side effects.
In order to let every doctor to learn the use of the drugs, the PowerPoint was promulgated through various platforms.
Four small group education meetings were carried out. The messages were also distributed through our 14 clinic hubs (which are small groups with in-house doctors of each GOPCs and the relievers), email and the department web-page.
To ensure proper drug use, special clinics were set up for novel oral anti-coagulant (NOAC) and inhalers. More time was given at these clinics for assessing and delivering information to patients. Audits were carried out twice per year to ensure proper use of some special drugs.
Result & Outcome :
The addition of large number of drug items in HA GOPC Drug List posed a great challenge for our department. Through effort of members of Drug Formulary subcommittee and seniors, a set of standardized slides with essential information was produced for promulgation at various platforms so as to enhance the quality use of new drugs added. Special clinics were set up to allow more effective assessment and information delivery to patients. Audits on special drugs were carried out to ensure proper use of drugs.
