Introduction :
There are several smart hospital elements have been launched in WTSH in 2022/2023 for example: E-vital, Tele-health and smart panel. According to Lui, Wu & Ho (2021), the use of technology is a global trend especially after COVID-19. The application of E-vital is to ensure accuracy of documentation, promptly draw ward staff attention for necessary actions and to streamline the workflow process. Accurate documentation is key to ensure continuity of care, furnish legal evidence of process of care and provide effective communication within different disciplines (Stevenson et al., 2018). In view of this, a workgroup is formed to ensure the E-vital system is properly applied in ward
Objectives :
1)To promote smart hospital environment enhancing communication between multidisciplinary or interhospitals 2)To review nurses' performance on E-vital usage 3)To ensure ward PCAs are able to assess and document patient 's vital sign on E-vital panel accurately
Methodology :
An audit form "Usage of digital device - E-vital" is developed by workgroup members to identify the importance of E-vital usage. Among a total sixteen items, three of them were listed as critical items. All sixteen items were applicable to nursing staff while only fourteen items were applicable to PCA staff. E-vitals training was given to all PCA staff before the audit.
Result & Outcome :
The E-vital system was rolled out in Aug 2022. Training was given to PCA staff in Nov 2022 and audit was conducted to all nursing staff and PCA staff from Dec 2022 to Jan 2023. There were a total of 19 nurses and 14 PCA candidates were assessed respectively. All candidates can perform the critical items correctly. The total compliance rate for nurses was 99.6% and for PCA was 98.5%. One candidate assigned the wrong frequency of vital sign, one candidate did not recheck the abnormal readings properly and two candidates had manual input data wrongly. The failing points were shared to staff after completing the audit. Smart hospital are becoming increasingly popular especially after COVID-19. There are several technologies to be implemented involving digital transformation, enhanced connectivity and workflow automation. Sustaining accurate performance of the procedure is necessary to minimize risks. Therefore, regular refresher education program is essential in promoting safe practice.
