Introduction :
This project aimed to enhance the staff’s knowledge on Vacuum Assisted Closure (VAC) and its application in the Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology at Tseung Kwan O Hospital. The program was initiated due to a lack of staff confidence and familiarity with VAC application, resulting in limited service delivery in the ward.
Objectives :
To enhance staff knowledge and confidence on VAC and its application in the Orthopaedic ward by
1. Understand the indications and contraindication of VAC
2. Familiar application of different VAC machines in ward
3. To pass the competency audit
4. Return demonstration on VAC application.
Methodology :
Four key improvement actions, including lecture, workshop, competency audit, and one-on-one demonstration and return demonstration.
Result & Outcome :
After the completion of the program, all 12 essential nursing staff passed the competency test in the return demonstration and showed an increase in knowledge and skills on VAC application. The feedback received was positive, all participants agreeing that the course had achieved its stated objectives and feeling more confident in their ability to apply VAC.
