Introduction :
Hyperbaric Nurse Attendant and Chamber Operations courses were developed in Hong Kong in 2020 to meet the training and services needs of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Treatment Centre (HBOTC) of PYNEH, theory and practical sessions were included. Starting from December 2022, there was direction from Hospital Authority (HA) and Senior Hospital Management of turning the theory of the courses online, saving the manpower on classroom teaching and opening to all working in Hospital Authority in 2023.
Objectives :
To report the development and implementation of online Hyperbaric Courses at eLC platform
Methodology :
The online courses were written by same designer of the HBOT courses, there was Program Review Development and Review Committee governing the courses. To prepare for the changes, strategies were set for actions: 1) eLC and HKEC IT and Training Centre teams were connected; 2) Course curriculum was revised by Consultant; 3) Consents of video-recording of lectures were obtained from speakers; 4) Knowledge and skills on video-editing and website-writing were acquired; 5) Online courses were designed and written at eLC software platform of HA; 6) User Assessment Test was performed before launching 7) Online courses were monitored and evaluated two months after launching.
Result & Outcome :
The online courses were written at eLC platform on August 1st and launched on September 6th and evaluated on November 22nd 2023: 58 lectures (of Generic, Specific to Attendant and Chamber Operations) were merged to 43, all followed by quizzes and evaluations. The study hours were shortened from 54 to 42.5. 72 colleagues were recorded attending the online courses or lectures, in which 19 were nominated by supervisors and expected working at HBOTC after completion of both theory and clinical practicum. 53 were the others. All passed the quizzes. 68 evaluation forms were received, majority of them rated the courses useful to their works, welcomed the online format and cellphone access function, welcomed the flexible and repeated access of lectures, welcomed inquiry support of course coordinator, welcomed the transcript function, welcomed opening to all HA colleagues which help promoting the services. Manpower were also saved on teaching. There were hiccups in writing the online courses and were settled by negotiations: Course materials were written by phases at the revamp period of eLC platform, Video size and storage were settled by cloud and share link, Approval of access rights were settled by applications, Sudden changing of Training Organizer was settled by status quo. Conclusion: Through development of online Hyperbaric courses, the implementation measures were feasible and results in significant improvement of colleagues to attend the online courses, to meet the training and service needs of HBOTC in October 2023. Furthermore, promote the services to all.
