Introduction :
Mental health is more imperative than ever with 1 in 5 adults experiencing a mental health condition globally. (WHO, 2022) During COVID pandemic, the population stress level and prevalence of mood symptoms increased drastically when compared with 2017 in Hong Kong. (Sheng, 2020) Lifestyle balance is essential in promoting mental health and daily function. In 2011, Occupational Therapy in Tai Po Hospital launched the Love Living Project, a lifestyle redesign self-management package. The project was supported by Labor & Welfare Bureau, over 1000 packages were issued in Hospital Authority and community partners. In view of rapid development of eHealth, Love Living 2.0 project targets to update the package in e-format, deliver through HA Go platform to empower patients’ self-management in upholding mental health.
Objectives :
• Develop TeleHealth Mental Health intervention in Occupational Therapy service. • Promote occupational balance and wellbeing of patients with mental illness.
Methodology :
Love Living 2.0 eLearning package including 28 days of educational videos, self-learning activities and patient recovery stories. A pilot study was conducted during Mar to Sept 2022 in New Territories East Cluster, Occupational Therapy department. Target the patients with mental health issue and outcomes measures are Occupation Balance Questionnaires (OBQ) on lifestyle balance and WHO-5 on wellbeing. In addition, patients’ feedback on overall satisfaction and knowledge were collected for further service development.
Result & Outcome :
Total 21 patients were recruited in the pilot. After the completion of 28 sessions of eLearning package, patients demonstrated significance improvement in occupational balance (t=-4.09, p<0.005) and wellbeing (t=-2.30, p<0.01). Furthermore, satisfactory survey (n=50) showed > 90% of participant reported overall satisfactory was good and >75% of participant reported improving knowledge on occupational balance, stress management, stress management. In view of the positive findings and feedback, the eLearning package were supported by stakeholders to deliver through HA Go tele info platform. The package is accessible to all OTs in HA and therapists can issue to patients in needed freely. During July 23 to Jan 24, over 1,200 prescriptions in Tai Po Hospital Occupational therapy department. In conclusion, patient empowerment through eLearning in HA Go platform is an effective and favorable mode of program delivery for patient with mental health concern. In 2024, a Love Living 2.0 webpage will be launched to further promote public awareness on mental health and lifestyle balance.
