They are the Hong Kong Poison Information Centre in the United Christian Hospital, Toxicology Reference Laboratory in the Princess Margaret Hospital and Poison Treatment Centre in the Prince of Wales Hospital. With strong support by the Chief Pharmacist’s Office (CPO) and working hand-in-hand with the Toxicovigilance section of Department of Health, they carry out the mission to reduce the mortality and morbidity from poisoning in Hong Kong.

Strengthening poison control through enhanced governance and integration of existing poisoning-dedicated services in HA.
Methodology :
In accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO 2020) guideline, a poison centre that integrates poison information, toxicology testing and tertiary treatment serviced is established under the governance of Kowloon east Cluster and Quality and Safety Division. Together with enhanced support from the CPO team and the Infection Emergency and Contingency Branch of HA Head Office, the HKPCC was inaugurated on 24 November 2023. In addition to streamlining of existing service, HKPCC will strengthen areas of expertise that include herb-drug safety, emerging drug of abuse detection, antidote preparedness through the formation of the Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine Treatment Safety Centre, Emerging Drug of Abuse Early Warning Centre and Antidote Coordinating centre respectively.
Result & Outcome :
HKPCC functions as the single contact point in HA for poison control collaborations among the many stakeholders in Hong Kong. HKPCC is also well-positioned to develop working relationship with its counterparts in the Greater Bay Area, China, Asia and globally.
