Introduction :
The testing and certification (T&C) sector in Hong Kong is highly acclaimed for its integrity, credibility, professionalism and quick response to market needs. Specifically, medical device equipment calibration is a procedure for detecting and fixing the uncertainties in measurements and bringing them to an acceptable level. The accuracy of the medical device has a great deal of importance, as it can seriously affect the diagnostic procedure and endanger patients’ life.
The Medical Equipment Calibration Laboratory (MECL) of the Hospital Authority Head Office (HAHO) is a Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS) accredited laboratory with the ability to provide calibration services traceable to international standard.
Objectives :
With a view to ensure effective training has been organized to our staff who has always striven for continuous learning and professional development, and with an aim to contribute to service quality improvement. Our laboratory developed our in-house training plan as according to the recommendation from professional organization and evaluate in outcome based approach.
Methodology :
Our laboratory developed our annual training plan as according to the recommendation from The Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC). The training covers 4 key areas, including i) Commitment to T&C Practitioners Training and Development, ii) Corporate Support to Enhance T&C Practitioner’s competence and Professionalism, iii) Caring for T&C Practitioners and iv) Communication with T&C Practitioners.
After our laboratory members have gone through the series of in-house and external training. They were assigned to develop new medical device equipment calibration services and the evaluation was conducted by Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS) of the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the Hong Kong SAR Government.
Result & Outcome :
Our services enhancement after implementation of the structured and outcome based approach has been selected as one the recipient of platinum award (the highest tier of the competition) of the Testing and Certification Manpower Development Corporate Award 2023-2024 organized by HKCTC and funded by ITC.
We were also invited by the Government Standards and Calibration Laboratory as the only non-government departmental organization to share our experience in the Metrology Symposium held in the Science Park in October 2023.
We have also developed 4 additional calibration services for electrical safety tester, Defibrillator Analyzer, Pacer Analyzer and Electrocardiography (ECG) Simulator in 2023.
